Are you relying on a cellphone to tell your story?
Every event is a major investment of time and resources. Yet, so many businesses rely on cellphone cameras to document their hard work. The result? Generic, low-quality images that don't capture the true energy or story of the day, leaving you with little to show for your efforts.

I provide high-impact visuals that add a new dynamic to your brand. By hiring a professional photojournalist to capture your event, you can take the stress away and focus on your guests, knowing that every key moment will be documented with a professional lens. The result is a stunning visual story that helps you increase engagement and build your brand. Let’s book a call and discuss your project and how I can help document along side your team.

Welcomed with open arms into the local Hall of Fame, Belleville’s born and raised hockey star Derek Smith holds numerous accomplishments on both a regional and professional level of world hockey. His debut in the NHL with the Ottawa Senators followed after logging 142 points and ranking seventh overall in franchise history with Ottawa’s affiliate AHL team in Binghamton in 2011. He assisted with bringing the team to victory at the Calder Cup championships. Smith joined the Calgary Flames in 2011, where he played 94 games, scored his first NHL goal, and was named the game's third star. Before his career ended in 2017, he played in Switzerland’s KHL before returning to the AHL. After returning to the region, Smith joined the OJHL as the assistant coach of the Wellington Dukes, becoming head coach of the junior franchise in 2019. In 2023, he became head coach and GM of the Trenton Golden Hawks OJHL franchise, where Smith still holds the position for the 25-26 season. Event coverage by DAVID LECLAIR

Frequently Asked Event Coverage Questions
-
Do you travel outside of the Bay of Quinte region?
Yes. I am based in the Bay of Quinte, but I am available for events in Prince Edward County, Belleville, Brighton, and across Southeastern Ontario. I'm also happy to discuss destination events and special projects.
-
How many hours of coverage should I book for my event?
The ideal number of hours depends on your event's unique schedule and goals. To ensure all key moments are captured, most clients book between 4-8 hours. We can discuss the best option for your event during our consultation.
-
How many images will we get with our coverage?
I focus on delivering a comprehensive gallery of high-quality images that tell your event's complete story. The final number depends on the length and scope of the event, but you can expect 100+ images per hour of coverage.
-
What is your photography approach for event coverage?
My approach is a blend of photojournalism and authentic storytelling. I work discreetly, documenting the event as it unfolds while also capturing the key moments, candid interactions, and overall energy. I believe the best visuals are a true reflection of the experience.
-
Do you only shoot candids at events or will you capture portraits of attending guests?
While my focus is on candid, documentary-style photography, I am happy to capture posed photos and group portraits. We will discuss all the essential shots and moments you want captured during our pre-event planning session.
-
How long is your image turnaround for event coverage?
Final images are professionally edited and delivered in an online gallery within 4 to 6 weeks of your event. If you need a faster turnaround, please let me know during our consultation so we can discuss expedited options.
-
Can we have images on the event day for live promotions?
Yes, absolutely. For an additional fee, I can select and edit a handful of key images on-site and deliver them to you before the end of the event. This ensures you have high-quality visuals for live social media promotions or immediate press releases.
-
Since you are also working with a local publication, can we use those images for our social media?
The images I create on assignment for publications are subject to different licensing. All of the images I capture at your event—including those used in a publication—are available for your use under a license agreement.
After the event, I can provide a watermarked proof gallery to review. We can then discuss which photos you would like to license for your social media, website, or marketing campaigns, with discounts available on the purchase of full galleries.
-
Is it cheaper to buy your gallery or lease images that you have shot while providing coverage for a news publication?
My pricing for commercial and event photography is based on usage-based licensing, which is different from my work as a photojournalist. For that reason, images are licensed at a commercial rate that reflects your specific marketing needs. You can license images on a per-image basis, or a full gallery can be purchased as a complete package. I'd be happy to provide a custom quote for your specific project.
